FAQs

What is Fubsies?

Fubsies is a ceramic studio making limited edition functional and ornamental homeware. All pieces are designed and made by Ruth Aislabie in Bristol, U.K.

How are Fubsies made?

Fubsies are made using a variety of ceramic production techniques.

Most large pieces are thrown on the wheel and then have hand built details added to the form before sculpting and carving the clay to bring out surface details. Smaller pieces are usually made only by hand using techniques such as pinching, coiling and sculpting.

All pieces are carefully painted using colourful underglazes which brings the clay to life. They are then finished with a ceramic glaze to give a shiny surface effect.

Fubsies also often feature a lustre glaze which is a chemical layer painted on top of the ceramic glaze giving a metallic or iridescent finish.

Can I learn how to make a piece myself?

Yes you can!

The Fubsies studio is a fully equipped learning space, ready to share the joy of ceramics with whoever wants to come along and give it a go.

A wheel throwing class is the recommended place to start as it allows you to get to grips with handling the clay and you see results quickly.

Head over to the classes page to find out more.

When will the piece I like be back in stock?

Fubsies are made slowly and carefully so please be patient when waiting for your product to come back into stock. Items are released every 6-8 weeks and designs are mixed up month on month so new pieces come in stock for each drop.

If you want to see a full preview of each and every item coming in stock for each shop update you can subscribe to my mailing list. Preview emails are sent roughly 24 hours before the shop update launches.

When will you have a sale?

Fubsies sample sales are run 1-2 times a year. Keep an eye on our Instagram page for updates on when the next one will be. We also regularly sell seconds pieces as part of our usual stock drops.
